The reporter learned from the first press conference of Chengdu Customs in 2021 that in 2020, the import and export volume of goods trade in Sichuan reached an all-time high, breaking through the 800 billion yuan mark for the first time, with a year-on-year increase of 19%.
According to customs statistics, in 2020, the total import and export value of goods trade in Sichuan was 808.19 billion yuan, ranking eighth in the country, with an increase of 19% compared with 2019, and the growth rate ranked second in the country. Among them, exports were 465.43 billion yuan, an increase of 19.2%; Imports reached 342.76 billion yuan, an increase of 18.8%. In the same period, the national import and export of goods increased by 1.9%, of which exports increased by 4% and imports decreased by 0.7%.
Pan Xudong, Director of Statistics and Analysis Department of Chengdu Customs, said that there are three main reasons for the rapid growth of Sichuan’s foreign trade: first, the "house economy" products have promoted the rapid growth of exports; second, the constantly released market demand has provided strong support for expanding imports; and third, the high-level open platform has played an obvious role.
According to reports, while the scale of Sichuan’s foreign trade reached a record high in 2020, the high-quality development of foreign trade also made positive progress, mainly in three aspects: first, the new kinetic energy of foreign trade was significantly enhanced, second, the trade market was more diversified, and third, the import of people’s livelihood consumer products increased rapidly.  (Reporter   Wang Mingfeng)
